Storing printer ink properly: How to make your ink last longer
Teilen
Ink in 500 ml or 1-liter bottles is the most affordable per milliliter. For this to be worth it, the ink must remain in good condition until the last drop. A few simple rules will ensure that.
The 6 rules for storage
- Cool, but frost-free: Normal room temperature is ideal. Frost and extreme heat – for example in the car or near a heater – damage the ink.
- Dark: Direct sunlight can damage the dyes. A cupboard is the best place.
- Tightly closed: Open bottles dry out and collect dust.
- Standing upright: This keeps the cap clean and sealed.
- Childproof: Printer ink is not suitable for consumption and must be kept out of reach of children.
- Labeled: If you have several inks, write the printer model and purchase date on the bottle.
Special feature of pigment ink
Pigments can settle at the bottom during prolonged storage. Therefore, shake the bottle vigorously before refilling. More about the difference between ink types: Pigment ink or dye ink?
How can I tell if ink is no longer good?
- Clumps or sediment at the bottom that does not dissolve even after shaking
- Significantly altered color or unusual smell
- Ink is visibly thickened
In this case, do not use the ink anymore – it can clog the nozzles.
